And you know the old Doc doesn’t mince words. When I say easy – I mean easy! And if you talk to most experts I think they’ll agree that this is also one of the best ways to melt down that spare tire.

Slow and steady is all it takes. Basically all you need to do is to burn or cut a measly 100 extra calories a day and over the course of the next year you’ll win the battle of the bulge.

No crash diets or hours spent in the gym. Nope – slow and steady is the only way to drop the weight and keep it off for good without making any drastic changes to your lifestyle.

And take your pick, there’s tons of ways to burn or cut a few extra calories every day with little effort on your part. And those little steps add up to big mileage at the end of the year – you could literally find yourself 10 lbs. lighter and not even realize it happened.

All it takes are a few cuts here and a little burn there and viola! So here are my 21 favorite ways to lose the gut without even trying. And there’s so many more – maybe these will inspire you to make a little list of your own.

My 12 Easy Secrets to Cut 100 Extra Calories a Day Without Even Trying:

1) Low Fat Brands: simply switching to low fat mustard, mayonnaise or salad dressing can save you the 100 calories without sacrificing any delicious flavor.

2) Soda: you know I hate soda, but if you have to indulge try a diet soda instead. If you swap just one regular soda for a diet brand you’ll cut almost 150 calories without even trying.

3) Whipped: instead of whole butter try using light whipped butter. Since whipped butter is full of air it has just a fraction of the calories of the regular stuff with no noticeable difference in taste.

4) Skip the Gravy: mashed taters are so creamy and delicious as it is you don’t even need it. And by passing on the gravy you’re going to save yourself at least 100 calories.

5) Cheese: next time you’re throwing a sandwich together leave off the cheese. You probably won’t even miss it and you certainly won’t miss the extra poundage it carries with it.

6) Try the Salad: next time you’re at a restaurant opt for the salad instead of the greasy French fries or buttery baked potato – you’ll still be full but with just a fraction of the fat.

7) Skinless: if you love to eat chicken I have good news, by simply removing the skin you can cut the calories in half without sacrificing much in the way of flavor.

8) Burgers: next time you’re at the grocery store spend a little more and opt for the ground sirloin instead of the cheaper ground beef – you’ll get a tastier burger and just a fraction of the calories and fat.

9) Share: I don’t like to skip desert, but I’ve found it helps to share the sweet stuff with my wife. That way you get to have your cake and stay lean and mean too.

10) Take One Down: if you’re planning on having a couple beers while you watch the game tonight, trying drinking just 1 less than normal and you’ll save yourself almost 200 calories for your trouble.

11) Snack Smart: need a quick snack, well pass right by the chips and crackers and grab your self an apple or banana instead. In the long run it really does add up.

12) They Don’t Mix: I eat tuna all the time and I found by switching to tuna packed in water as opposed to oil I save myself a ton of calories without even noticing the difference in taste.

Now remember you don’t have to do all of these at once. Just pick the one that makes the most sense for your lifestyle and watch the weight melt away.

But if you’d rather not watch what you eat and are looking for a different approach, I have a few tricks up my sleeve that will help you burn off an extra 100 calories a day –  and you’ll barley even break a sweat.

9 Ways to Burn an Extra 100 Calories a Day with Very Little Effort:

1) Use Your Bike: if you need to make a quick run to the corner store ride your bike instead of driving. 10 minutes is all you need to hit the mark.

2) The DVD Workout: next time you’re sitting around the house with nothing to do, throw a workout video in your DVD player and move around for bit. Here’s one I recommend… http://www.naturecast.com/ff-nc/ 15 minutes is all it takes to get in the best shape of your life.

3) Take a Hike: a brisk 15 min. walk after dinner is one of the simplest and most enjoyable ways to burn a quick 100 calories. Bring it up to a jog and you can double your results in the same amount of time.

4) Take the Stairs: if you live on the second or third floor of your building it’s just as fast to take the stairs as the elevator and you’ll burn off all that excess blubber to boot. And if you’re carrying bags or groceries all the better, you’ll drop that extra poundage before you know it.

5) Dance Fever: not only is dancing a great fat burner but it’s fun too. Take a dance class hit the club – whatever works best for you. 20 minutes is all it takes, and remember the ladies love a man who can dance.

6) The Car Wash: it’s so easy to run it through the quick wash at the gas station most people have gotten away from the pleasure of washing their own car. But if you clean it yourself you’re car will look better and your waist line will be that much slimmer.

7) Cut the Grass: I know the kid down the street will cut it for $5 and you probably have better ways to spend your weekend. But if you’re looking for a way to burn a few extra calories 20 minutes pushing around your lawn mower is one of the best I know of, and you get a sharp looking lawn out of the deal.

8) Jump Rope: even though it’s more of a traditional exercise I threw it in because it’s one of the fastest ways to burn excess calories and pack on lean muscle that I know of. 15 minutes of jumping rope and you’ll know instantly that it’s working for you.

9) Help Around the House: we all hate house work, but if you can help your wife with the chores for 15 – 20 minutes you’ll not only rack up big time brownie points but you’ll reach your weight loss goals that much quicker.

And don’t pussy foot around, make a game out of it. Ever time yourself to see how fast you can sweep the floor? Bet you can’t beat my record!

I know it’s not always easy to find the time to do these things, but you don’t have to do them all at once.

Just do something – keep your body moving and continue to make smart choices with the foods you eat. And by the end of the year you won’t even recognize that lean mean sex machine staring back at you in the mirror.

All it takes is one step at a time and little by little you’ll arrive at your goals now matter how far off they may seem.

Stay Healthy!
